Privacy, in plain words

Last updated: 18 October 2026
The short version. You do not need an account or an email address to use Better Than HTML. We keep as little about you as we can. Please do not put your phone number, home address, ID numbers or other private details into anything you publish: whatever you publish here is public.

Who we are

Better Than HTML is a free site where people, including people with little experience of computers, can make things, share them and get ideas started. It is run by Blase Ulric Bowden. You can reach us at rfsoftwareresearch@gmail.com.

What we keep, and for how long

What stays on your own device

Game saves and settings (for example your Waterworks city, or a high score) are kept in your own browser on your own device. We do not receive them. Clearing your browser data removes them. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics.

Who else sees your data

The site runs on Cloudflare, which stores our data and handles web traffic for us, so Cloudflare sees your internet address when you visit, as any web host does. Some pages load common open-source libraries or fonts from public content delivery networks (such as cdnjs or Google Fonts), which see your internet address too. We do not sell data, and we do not share it for advertising.

Taking down something you published

When you publish a Workshop page, a Dispatch notice or a game you are given a delete key. Keep it safe. Put it in at betterthanhtml.com/workshop/remove with the link, and it is deleted for good. If you lost your key, or published before keys existed, use the removal request on the same page and we will look at it. The same request route works for posts on the Exchange.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to rfsoftwareresearch@gmail.com. If you published something and want it removed, tell us the link and we will take it down. If you are not happy with how we handled your request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

Some pages here are made by young people or by classes at school. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or teacher before you publish, and never put your full name, school, address or contact details in anything you share.

Changes

If we change this page we will update the date at the top.
